Sweet Summer Watermelon Slices

This handmade card is bursting with summertime sweetness, featuring an adorable little bunny enjoying a watermelon snack while lounging on a striped picnic blanket. Bright watermelon slices add a playful pop of color, while bold green stripes in the background mimic the look of a watermelon rind and tie the whole design together. It’s fresh, fun, and full of all those carefree summer vibes! My card features the following new Alex Syberia Designs products:

Whimsical Scalloped Frames Die Set

Summer Chill Stamp and Die Bundle

Whimsical Dots Stencil

This card is 5″ X 7″ and the card base is made from Neenah 80lb Classic Crest Solar White cardstock.

To make this card, I stamped, colored and die cut that cute little relaxing bunny from the Summer Chill Stamp and Die Bundle. With the bundle, you get the dies, too! I colored the bunny with Copic markers in E42, E40, YG67, YG17, YG03, R27, R14, B93 and a white ink pen for highlights. He needed a cute frame so I die cut the red scallop frame using the Whimsical Scalloped Frames Die Set. I used the small scallop and die cut it from red and white and popped the white interior in the red frame. I needed a landing for this little bunny so why not one bigger slice of watermelon?! I used various oval dies I had to make the water melon landscape and the triangular slices below it. This is really easy to do and it takes no time at all. Simply layer three nesting oval die cuts in green, light green and red and glue together. Add some black seeds with a black marker.

For the background, I used two colors of green cardstock on the bottom of the card base. I cut 5″ wide X 3/4″ tall stripes and glued them on the card base. I left a small white section at the bottom, bare. I like the white popping through for a horizontal line of white to lighten the bottom half.  For extra detailing, I added white stitching to the edges of the green stripes to lighten the look and match the bottom white stripe. I attached the triangular watermelon slices and added Glass Effects Gel in red to make the translucent red drops of sweet goodness! This can also be achieved using a red marker and Glossy Accents. Just dot some red and add Glossy Accents over the red dots. They will appear red!

The top half of this card uses the Whimsical Dots Stencil for a playful play on the round watermelon on a sheet of white cardstock measuring 5″ wide X 3-1/2″ tall. I used Festive Berries Distress Oxide Ink, applying very lightly to add the red dots (that look pinkish) here. I used my R27 Copic marker to add some additional dot detailing over the stenciled dots. The soft touch of the blender brush keeps these dots light and airy. They sort of disappear around the edges, keeping the focus on the framed funny.

I attached the framed bunny to the 5″ X 7″ dotted/striped watermelon background for a playful summer card.
