Peonies and Prayers for a Dear Friend

Sometimes a handmade card is about more than pretty papers and flowers—it’s a way to let someone know they’re in your heart and thoughts. Today’s card was created for a dear friend and features the beautiful peonies framed with a delicate sunset-colored scalloped edge and a rich, dark green frame. I love how the deep green makes the soft florals stand out while giving the card an elegant, comforting feel. The sentiment, “For a dear friend, I’m praying for you,” says exactly what this card is meant to convey—a little love, encouragement and support when a friend needs it most.

Whimsical Scalloped Frames Die Set

To make this 5″ X 7″ card, I stamped, die cut and colored the peony bouquet using the Peony corners stamp set and coordinating dies. I used the Peony Corners Stencil Set to color the stencil using various shades of Distress Oxide Ink in oranges and greens. I used Copic Markers to add additional detailing in the buds and a white ink pen for the floral centers.

I used the Whimsical Scalloped Frames Die Set to frame the peonies. I die cut the frame from a dark green cardstock and splattered it with gold metallic paint. I also cut the scallop frame from white cardstock and blended orange and yellow inks over the scallop trim piece. I used the solid white center for the background of the flowers and adhered the flowers in place using foam tabs. I splattered a little more watercolor ink over the white and attached the card front to a white card base to complete the card.
