Underwater Wonders Birthday Card for the Monthly Challenge

Hello friends! It’s September and that means a whole new monthly challenge is underway at Alex Syberia Designs. The September challenge includes a color scheme and/or a birthday theme. I did both on my inspiration card today.  I used the cool tones for the background and main characters and then used the warm accents, yellow, orange and fuchsia colors as accents.  I also made my card into a birthday card to fit the theme.

I’m using the following Alex Syberia Designs products:

Underwater Wonders stamp and dies

Modern Weave Stencil

Pengu-tastic stamp set (for the hat only)

Rainbow Sentiments stamp set (for the “happy birthday” sentiment only)

To make this 5″ X 7″ card, I stenciled the Modern Weave stencil design on the card front panel using Distress Oxide Inks in Mowed Lawn,  Salvage Patina and Salty Ocean. Next, I stamped the images from the Underwater Wonders stamp and cut them using the coordinating dies.  I used all of the warm challenge colors in the images – fuchsia, yellow and orange.  My “fishing hat” covered too much of the eyes on the big fish so I tucked the hat behind the underwater plants.

I added a wider strip of white (2″) at the bottom of the card and stamped two sentiments, one from the Rainbow Sentiments stamp set and one sentiment from the Underwater Wonders stamp set.  I attached the colored images using foam tabs for the fish and underwater plants mound. The flipping fish and hat were attached with glue. Lastly, I hand drew a balloon and string and colored it in fuchsia and cut it out by hand. I attached it over the stencil design to unite the mini corner scene with the modern background pattern.
