Hello Crafty friends,
This is Sylvie @kaliscards with a new Kokeshi doll creation. These dolls are so fun to create and so easy to assemble. For this project, I decided to pair them with the Parasols press plate and coordinating stencil and I just love the harmony of these colors matching their kimonos.
To create this card, I started by die cutting the kokeshi dolls from colored cardstock and from a pad of origami sheets I had in my stash. I tried to use matching colors for the additional kimono details. I also die cut the kimono from white cardstock to layer underneath the thin origami sheet. For the hair, I used glossy cardstock.
The kokeshi dolls are super easy to assemble, as layers are indicated with thin lines, so you know exactly where to glue the next piece:
For the background, I stamped the Parasols background on regular cardstock with Spellbinders BetterPress black ink.
I then used the coordinating layering stencil set to blend Ranger Distress inks, using colors that would match the kimonos:
Stencil 1: Tattered rose
Stencil 2: Shaded lilac
Stencil 3: Speckled egg
Stencil 4: Salvaged patina
Stencil 5: Scattered straw
Stencil 6: Fired brick
I then trimmed the panel down to 4″ by 5.5″. To soften the background a little and allow the kokeshi dolls to stand out, I added a 4″ high piece of vellum which I taped at the back of the panel with double-sided tape.
I then adhered the panel onto the cardbase and temporarily placed the dolls. I then stamped the sentiment from the Tulips treasure set (retired) on white cardstock and used the coordinating dies to cut it. I adhered it with liquid adhesive between the two dolls and finally adhered the dolls on either sides of the sentiment.
Thank you for stopping by and hope to see you next week.
Have a lovely crafty week!
