Sending love

Hello Crafty friends,

This is Sylvie @kaliscards

Today, I’m sharing another way to stretch the use of the Spring tulips stencil set. Hand-drawing is not one of my skills, so I welcome any workaround to help me hand-draw a little something. For today’s project, I used the Alex Syberia Designs Spring tulips stencil set to draw the outlines of the tulips, as well as their details.

This project is one of the 5 projects I created for the July issue of the Creative Stamping Magazine No. 150. The projects all follow the same color scheme (red, yellow, orange and turquoise).

For this project, I’m sharing a tip for stretching the use of your stencils. And if like me you are uncomfortable drawing, stencils are a very good starting point to unleash your creativity and grow your skills.

For the tulips, I cut a panel from Neenah classic crest cardtock 5″ by 6″ and I used each layer of the Alex Syberia Designs Spring tulips stencil set, to draw the outlines of the tulips with a pencil.

I then hand-drew each petal, erasing unneeded highlights from the stencil to replace by solid lines, keeping only outlines.

I then colored the tulips with Copic markers:
Petals: B28, B26, B24, B21, BG05, BG01 and BG000
Leaves and stems: G29, G46, G94, YG67, YG25, YG23 and YG01

With a Copic liner, I added the stamens in the two open tulips.

I then fussy cut the tulips with a pair of scissors, along the edges. I also used a craft knife to reach smaller areas between the stems.

For the background, I used the Alex Syberia Designs Meadow magic cover die which I die cut from dark blue cardstock and darkened the edges and corners with Ranger Distress oxide Black soot.

For the frame, I used the Nested scalloped frames die set and combined the largest scalloped rectangle with the second rectangle die to create a frame from Neenah classic crest cardstock. I then blended Ranger Distress oxides: Carved pumpkin, Crackling campfire and Lumberjack plaid, blending from the inside to the edges.

I adhered the frame onto the meadow background with foam tape, at an angle. I then adhered the tulips with foam tape, except where the tulips rest on the frame.

For the sentiment, I used the Alex Syberia Designs From our hearts stamp set, and, using masking tape, I stamped the first half of the “Sending love” sentiment and the script Love stamp, on Pear Blossom Press black sentiment cardstock, with Versamark ink. I heat set the sentiments with Wow! white embossing powder. I then used the coordinating dies to cut the sentiments, and trimmed off the word love from the “Sending love” sentiment, with a pair of scissors.

I then adhered the sentiments with liquid adhesive.

Finally, I prepared a cardbase, 4.5″ by 5.75″, from Crafter’s companion white multi-purpose cardstock. I adhered the front panel with liquid adhesive.

Thank you for stopping by and hope to see you next week.

Have a lovely crafty week!

Sylvie
