A little bouquet to brighten your day

Hello Crafty friends,

This is Sylvie @kaliscards. Today, I’m sharing a pop-up bouquet of tulips

This project is one of the 5 projects I created for the July issue of the Creative Stamping Magazine No. 150. The projects all follow the same color scheme (red, yellow, orange and turquoise).

This is a fun pop-up bouquet card, very easy to make. For the vase, I simply used a circle die and trimmed to the top and bottom. I then created several tabs with a Z-fold to adhere the flowers and create the pop-up vase.

I started by printing the background vase on a 4.5″ by 5.75″ panel of Neenah ultra smooth solar white cardstock, using the Alex Syberia Designs Charming floral background press plate and Spellbinders Better Press ink Hydrangea.

I then used the coordinating stencil set to blend Ranger Distress oxides for the flowers and leaves:
Stencil 1: Tattered rose
Stencil 2: Kitsch flamingo
Stencil 3: Twisted citron and Mowed lawn
Stencil 4: Mowed lawn and Rustic wilderness
Stencil 5: Squeezed lemonade and Mustard seed

I then used a 3.3″ circle die to die cut a circle from the panel, leaving the circle die to stand outside the panel at the bottom, at about 0.5″. I ran the panel through my die cutting machine and then trimmed the top of the circle, making sure to stay parallel to the bottom base and trimmed about 0.75″ off the circle.

From the remainder of the panel, I cut a piece sized 1.5″ by 2.2″ to create a mini greeting card that I will insert at the back of the vase, to write a note for the recipient. On that mini panel, I stamped the sentiment With love, from the Alex Syberia Designs Tulips in bloom stamp set. I then created a cardbase from white cardstock slightly bigger and adhered the mini panel onto it with liquid adhesive.

I die cut 2 other circles from white cardstock and used the floral one as a template to trim the top and bottom at the exact same place. I will use these 2 circles at the back of the pop-up vase.

Next, I created a notch in one of the white circles, at the top, to create a slot to insert the mini greeting card. I picked a sentiment strip die from one of Alex Syberia Designs coordinating die sets, sized just a bit larger than the mini card.

I then adhered the two white circles together, adding liquid adhesive above the slot, on the sides of the vase and at the bottom, making sure to avoid the middle part that will hold the mini card.

Next, I stamped one of the Tulips in bloom image on white cardstock 3 times and colored them with Copic markers:
Leaves: G46, G29, YG23 and YG01
Red tulips: R39, R46, R35, R32 and RV00
Yellow tulips: YR24, YR21, Y21, Y11 and Y000
Orange tulips: YR24, YR07, Y38, Y17, Y15 and Y13
Center: W10, W7 and W4

I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and also die cut 3 more from white cardstock, to adhere at the back of each colored tulips. I used liquid adhesive. This will allow to have a clean finish at the back.

To create the pop-up mechanism, I cut two strips of heavy cardstock, 1″ by 5″ and two 1″ by 7″. I then scored each strip to create Z-folds on both ends of each. I scored each at:
Short strip: 0.5″, 0.75″, 1″, 4″, 4.25″ and 4.5″
Long strip: 1.5″, 1.75″, 2″, 5″, 5.25″ and 5.5″
I then creased the folds with a bone folder.

Once folded, you should have 2 tabs with a 3″ long side and 2 little flaps, folded inwards, that will be adhered to the vase, and 2 tabs with two 3″ long sides, one being cut in 2, formed by two 1.5″ flaps. The 4 tabs will allow to create 3 slots for the 3 flower bouquets. Tabs will be adhered back to back along the long sides. Each bouquet will be inserted between two tabs. This way, the bouquets are held firmly and can’t be unattached from the tabs.

To assemble the vase, I started by adhering one of the tabs, with the small flaps at the back of the floral vase. I added liquid adhesive on the two small flaps and adhered the tab at the top of the vase, leaving a small edge. I then took a first bouquet, added liquid adhesive at the bottom of the stems and adhered it on the center of the first tab, facing down. I then took a tab with two long sides, added liquid adhesive on the long side and adhered it against the first tab. I glued a second bouquet moving it a bit to one side, so it does not appear centered like the first one. I then took the second tab with two long sides and adhered it against the previous tab. I finally adhered the last bouquet on the other side and finally adhered the last tab with the two small flaps, adhering the long side to the previous tab.  I then added liquid adhesive on the two small flaps and adhered the inner side (or back) of the white vase on top, making sure the two sides of the vase were fully aligned at the top and bottom. I placed the vase standing up on my desk to make sure the bouquet was stable and perfectly aligned at the bottom.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment “A little bouquet to brighten your day” on white cardstock, and used the Tulips in bloom coordinating die to cut it out. And I adhered the sentiment on the vase with liquid adhesive.

Thank you for stopping by and hope to see you next week.

Have a lovely crafty week!

Sylvie
