Hello friends,
Always happy to see you here!
Today I’m guest designing on Altenew Card blog. Please head on over to the Altenew Card Blog for the featured post and leave me some love there! 🙂
I also have a giveaway to thank you for being my loyal subscribers and viewers!
I’ve created three cards to show you different ways to color with watercolors.
For my cards, I used Courageous You Stamp Set and Geometric Elements Stamp Set from the Altenew July Release, Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors and Winsor & Newton watercolors.
I filmed two videos showing my creative process. Many of you have asked to film the whole process of my coloring, so the second video is a long video and it shows my no-line watercoloring from scratch.
First Card
I started to work on my first card by heat embossing images in Antique Gold embossing powder. I stamped the images in clear embossing ink on hot pressed watercolor paper, heat embossed them with Altenew gold embossing powder.
I then watercolored the flowers. I wanted to create a “Dramatic Look” for my card, so I decided to do a black background and bright flowers. To add more shine to the panel, I also added gold paint splatters.
Once my coloring was done, I trimmed the panel, added a sentiment, and mounted it on a white card base. The sentiment was heat embossed in white Embossing Powder. To finish, I added a few Altenew Antique Gold Sequins.
Second Card
When I first saw the Geometric Elements stamp set I thought about colorful gemstones.
First, I wanted to color these elements with alcohol markers but then I thought it would be better to color them with watercolors. This set is so versatile! It’s perfect for CAS cards and for masculine cards, also.
I started working on my card by stamping the elements in Altenew Obsidian Pigment ink on watercolor paper and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder.
I then watercolored the elements using different colors to achieve the “gemstone look”. First I added water to the image and dropped in color. To make this more interesting, I added a little bit of gold/silver color pigment to each element. I used “wet on wet” watercoloring technique. It means that you begin by applying clean water to your paper to make it moist, then you lay down your color.
After I was done with watercoloring, I stamped a sentiment in black and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder as well. I then trimmed the panel and glued it onto a pink card base.

Final Card
To make my last card I stamped the flowers using Victorian Velvet Distress Ink and did no-line watercoloring with Winsor & Newton watercolors.
After the panel was dry I stamped a sentiment and mounted it onto white card base.

That’s it from me for today.
I hope I inspired you to use these gorgeous stamp sets!

GORGEOUS creations! I just found you today (Sept 2, 2020) while looking at Altenew’s newsletter showing your beautiful card using Engagement Wishes Bundle. Did you color the emerald color background and with what?
Hello Lagene, thank you so much for your comment!
as I understood that the card you are talking about was made using emerald cardstock.
I made that background by blending Altenew blue and lagoon inks onto the emerald panel.
I am so happy to see guest designing with Altenew and all 3 cards are gorgeous! I love the black background with the bright florals on the first one. The Geometric Elements look so cool with the silver and gold added, definitely made them look like gorgeous gemstones. The last one with a Victorian feel is just stunning. I’m going to watch your videos now, I’m so happy you made them :).
Beautiful cards, and watercolour painting! The gold metallic on the gemstones is the perfect addition.
WOW, Alex! I am in awe of you and your cards. 😊 These are so beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous! Simply stunning. 😊
Your water coloring is definitely dramatic and so very beautiful! It inspires me to try and do better myself. Thanks for guesting on Altenew!
Alex these are all STUNNING!!!!!! Wow!!!!!! I just watched both videos! Truly STUNNING!!!!!!! Your the best!
Your flowers are gorgeous as always. I love the colors and glorious designs!! You always amaze me with your talent!! Send some of that talent this way Sweetie!! ❤️❤️
Alex, your cards are always gorgeous. Just curious, but do you ever use black watercolor paper? Also, I heard about ladies using salt with their watercolor projects. Have you ever tried it?
Hi Marisela, thank you so much for your comments. I never use black watercolor paper, but I really want to try it! Yes, salt is a fun, experimental tool to use when watercolor painting. it gives beautiful textures.
Alex, I’m always overjoyed to see you guesting at Altenew! Today, I must say they are all extraordinarily beautiful cards – but! To me? You’ve saved the very best of the three for last! Off to see you create magic, my friend… xoxo
