Guest Designer – Jaycee Gaspar

Hi everyone! My name is Jaycee, and I’m so excited to be a part of Alex’s newest release for February 2020 over at Alex Syberia Designs. Like many of my crafty friends who have already shown their amazing projects on Alex’s blog, I wanted to show you all my approach to creating a simple floral card. No special tools needed besides colored pencils, and a printer—the rest is up to you! To see how I made my card project just for Alex’s blog and using one of (many) favorites from this release, check out my video below or head over to my YouTube Channel!

Clematis Stamp

One of the places I draw inspiration from is botanical illustration. The reason I love the Clematis stamp is because it complements my favorite floral coloring style. In the above project, I simply printed the image on Neenah Desert Storm 80lb cardstock. I made sure that my printer only printed using the black ink cartridge, as I find that yields the best result without any feathering. Then I broke out my Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils and colored away.

Using a high-quality colored pencil gives you full coverage. However, pigment placed on top of the printed outline then obscures the detail of the digital stamp. So I went over places where I colored outside the lines with a Pigma Micron 005 Pen to enhance the detail of the image. It elevates the definition of the floral bouquet. Then after fussy cutting the image with my Fiskars Swivel Knife, I foam mounted the colored floral pair onto a speckled panel of Neenah Desert Storm. The sentiment comes from Altenew-Forever in Love; I thought the sentiment paired well with the flower duo.

Heart Lollipop Stamp, Strawberry Cupcake Stamp and Candy Cupcake Stamp

The February release also features many edible type digital images. I paired my colored cupcakes and lollipops with Concord & 9th-Sew Happy Hearts and Love You To Pieces Stamp and Die Sets. Alex’s hand illustrated images complemented the playful banners and backgrounds featured from their December 2019 release.
