And today I’m so excited to have my talented friend Amber as a first guest designer. She created three AMAZING projects that will blow you away! If you want to see more of her work, feel free to check out her blog. You can also have a quick look through her Instagram feed.

Guest Designer – Amber Rain Davis

Hello, everyone! I’m Amber Rain Davis from NotableInk.com, and I’m ecstatic to be guest designing for Alex’s brilliant new release! I’ve been a super fan of Alex for ages and am dying to meet her in person one day! Until then, I’m over the moon excited to collaborate with her!

Video

This video is a bit different for my channel. I get a little chatty and I step in front of the camera for a video intro and exit. Ok, it’s totally different! Watch here or in HD on YouTube.

Candy Cupcake & Sketched Peony Stamps

When I opened these files I gasped. Just look at all those petals and yummy frosting folds to color!! I have a lot of project deadlines in February, but I pumped the breaks on all of them to color these images.

Large images, especially flowers, are my jam. There is more opportunity for color blends with large images. Digital stamps give me the freedom to blow up the images and to overlay them without masking. I’m mask avoidant, surely there’s an ICD-9 code for that affliction.

Digital Composition

I’m learning to compose a digital scene in Photoshop by trial and error. Therefore, I’m not able to clearly walk you through how I set up my scenes.

What I can share is that I like to drop in a subtle background texture when possible. The wood panel you see here is a digital pattern paper (link below). I used it to create a wall and left blank space at the bottom to suggest a white table.

Adding a background texture like this eliminates the need for me to color a background which is a huge time saver!

I also used various fonts to create the sentiments and then matched the color to the markers I intended to use. This also took trial and error as the printed output didn’t match what I was seeing on screen.

Copic Marker Colors

BV02, BV04, BV08 | cupcake wrapper, swirl lollipop
RV63, RV66, RV69, V06 | peony, heart lollipops
E31, E23, E25, E29, E49 | frosting, Pirouline
C00, C1, C3, C5 | drop shadows

Clematis Stamp

Guys, I’m telling you Alex’s images bring out the best in my coloring. These clematis flowers are gorgeous and they’re already arranged for you!

Digital Composition

Instead of using a digital pattern paper or adding texture to the background, I added vertical and horizontal black lines to ground the image. Clematis is a climbing flower and I wanted the lines to suggest lattice.

I love designing with black and these bold lines and sentiments really speak to me. Adding black makes your coloring pop off the page.

Copic Marker Colors

B91, BV02, BV04, BV08 | blue-violet flower
RV63, RV66, RV69, V06 | red-violet flower
YG21, YG23 | stamens
YG23, YG63, YG67, G29 | leaves

Beautiful Heart Stamp

This heart wreath looked so welcoming I decided to create a Welcome Home card with a warm color palette.

Digital Composition

This time I added a homey brick background. I didn’t take the time to add a white background to the heart wreath image first. Take a look at the close-up and you can see the bricks show through the flowers and leaves.
