Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is.
Hello, crafty friends! Happy to see you here!
Today I’m sharing a watercolor floral card I made for my Mom using my favorite stamp sets from Altenew.
As many of you know, I am a fan of watercoloring and I love watercolor techniques so much; but at the same time, I think that it’s a very difficult medium. The first thing for achieving a great result is a lot of patience. The second thing is the right watercolor paper. The watercolor paper you choose can have a huge bearing on the quality of your work. You might save some money with low-quality paper, but you’ll find that watercolor pigments do not respond well on cheap surfaces, making some techniques difficult to perform. I continue to try different materials.
I like to use a cold pressed watercolor paper, which has a texture that makes a painting on it easy, but the texture does make it tricky to get a clear stamped impression if you are using black ink and then watercoloring.
However, I used Ranger Archival Black Ink and my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform to stamp the images. This time I decided to combine Wallpaper Art Stamp Set and Beautiful Peony Stamp Set.
To make my floral bouquet I used Beautiful Peony Mask/Stencil and Wallpaper Art Mask/Stencil. These coordinating mask stencils are so clever! They are thinner than ordinary stencils and include both the negative and positive die cut! I highly recommend them. Masking technique is a great way to create an illusion of depth.
I started watercoloring with light layers of color and slowly added more layers. The watercolors I used are the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors. For the highlights, I used a white pen. The card took a long time to make it, but I’m happy how it turned out! I showed my watercoloring process on my IGTV.
To finish off the card I added gold confetti. For the sentiment I took the stamp which says “Thank You” from the Wallpaper Art Stamp Set. I heat embossed it with white embossing powder and mounted it onto the panel.
That’s it for today. I hope I could inspire you! Please write a message below if you have any questions.
