Hello, crafty people! Happy to see you here! I want to share with you some cards I made with Altenew products and Pinkfresh Studio products. I shared Altenew cards a few days ago on my Instagram, and decided to share here too.
I’d been given a box of Prismacolor Colored Pencils, so I decided to practice a bit the other day and color a simple card. Black cardstock + gold embossing + colored pencils will always give you WOW effects! I had a comment on my Instagram that “It reminds me of opals or jewels”, and I can say that it’s true!
I treated my paper with an anti-static powder tool to help keep my heat embossing nice and stamped images from Engagement Wishes stamp set with clear embossing ink onto black cardstock, and gold heat embossed images. I did a few simple color tests on the back of my panel to see how the colors that I had picked would look on this cardstock. I was not disappointed and proceeded to color the images. I then popped up a sentiment, gold heat embossed on black and added Midnight Blue Crystals.
You’ll get better results working from light to dark, even if you usually work dark to light. I used several shades of blue, violet and turquoise, but you can definitely get by with a smaller collection of colored pencils using this technique. But I think you should necessarily have a white pencil because it uses for highlights and sometimes for the first layer. I used Prismacolor colored pencils in the following colors: 956,1008,933,905,992,1027,930 and 938 (white)
My next project featuring a technique where you use embossing paste and embossing powder together. This method gives you amazing results! I used new Embossing Paste from Altenew.
First, I made a rainbow background using Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors. I taped down Sunburst stencil onto my colored panel, took some paste and spread it out over the panel through the stencil. I then added gold embossing powder and used my heat tool to melt it. I love how it turned out!
To finish off the card I heat embossed a part of my sentiment from Wallpaper Art Stamp Set with white embossing powder and mounted it onto the panel. Also, I die cut other part of the sentiment with Simply Friend Die (made two layers and glued them together).
I celebrate my Birthday in May and either subconsciously I made a Birthday card. LOL..
To make this fun train I used the Train Ride Stamp Set from Pinkfresh Studio. I used it for the first time. It’s so super adorable!! You can use it not only for Birthday cards but also for Christmas cards! Love!
I stamped the train using mint, rose and violet colors. I die-cut it using the matching dies. I made a panel out of white cardstock and blended Altenew Volcano Lake ink. I stamped tiny images and a sentiment. I then foam mounted the train onto the card base.

What lovely cards! I love your sweet little train scene – such fun colors! Thanks so much for playing along with the May Pinkfresh Studio Challenge!
Wow…..that is the best way I can describe how I felt when I opened this page and saw that first card…..WOW….I am so happy for you that someone was so kind as to give you some prisma colored pencils….that is awesome. Wish someone would give me a set….LOL….I have two White and one Blender by Prisma…that I bought for myself….maybe I need to hint to the hubby…..LOL…
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how beautiful your work is! It is so impressive. And your color choices are wonderful. I loved your stenciled card. That I will have to try.. So lovely…every single one. Thanks so much for sharing them. Happy Mother’s Day Week!!!!
A heartful thank you for your words! It means a lot to me! My sister made me an early birthday present and I’m happy to have Prisma pencils.LOL. For coloring on black cardstock, you will have amazing results with several colors, trust me. You should try! 🙂 Thank you so much for your feedback and Happy Mother’s Day Week!
That card you made in black cardstock is amazing!! The colors are absolutely gorgeous!! I don’t know how you come up with the combinations of colors like you do, they are always amazing. That is the trouble I have, envisioning the right colors. I started making cards about 1 1/2 year ago and I watch YouTube like crazy to learn as much as I can. Cross stitching was always my thing for 40 years so this is quite a change but I’m having so much fun trying!!
Thank you so much for your feedback, Lisa! Honestly, I don’t know how I do it, I can’t describe. LOL I just take colors and mix them. If you are interested I can write the numbers of colors I used, let me know. Our hobby makes us smile which in turn makes us happier! So I agree with you! Do you use Instagram? tag me there I’d love to see your creations! 🙂
I love that first card especially, Alex! Did you sprinkle the embossing powder while the stencil was still in place? I am interested to know because if like to try your card!
Thank you so much, Annie! I removed the stencil very carefully and after that added the embossing powder and melted it. When you melting the embossing powder with a heat tool it is going to bubble up, but it’s ok. Just do it quickly! I’ll try to make a video with this technique. I’d love to see your project!:)
